Circa 1876 Residence of Washington medal by Frederick B. Smith. Musante GW-215, Baker-112. White Metal. SP-63 (PCGS).63.6 mm. Fully brilliant save for a small oval of light golden brown toning in the reverse field. Exceptional reflectivity in the fields accentuates the satiny and lustrous devices. There are small patches of hairlines on both sides, as often seen. Beautifully struck and quite nicely preserved overall. Based on past appearances, this seems to be one of the more available variants, yet it certainly could not be called common. This example has better eye appeal than most we have seen.Ex William Spohn Baker Collection, to the Historical Society of Pennsylvania by bequest, November 15, 1897.
