Circa 1876 Residence of Washington medal by Smith and Hartmann. Musante GW-209, Baker-111. White Metal. SP-63 (PCGS).64.1 mm. Mostly brilliant surfaces with just a faint tint of pale bluish gray. Beautifully struck in high relief with excellent definition through the intricacies of the reverse design. Light hairlines as usually seen, and a couple of small abrasions in the reverse field. These seem virtually unavoidable on these medals. Satiny devices and generously reflective fields. Some examples of this medal are countermarked “F. KOCH & CO” near the obverse rim at 6:00, identifying a later distributor. This one is unmarked. The Musante plate piece.Ex Charles I. Bushnell, S.H. and H. Chapman, June 1882, lot 1319; William Spohn Baker Collection, to the Historical Society of Pennsylvania by bequest, November 15, 1897.
