Circa 1857 Tomb of Washington medal by Smith and Hartmann. Musante GW-207, Baker-117A. Copper, Bronzed. SP-65 (PCGS).64.1 mm. Another really outstanding medal from this series. The surfaces are fairly uniform deep olive with some slightly darker accents in places. Exceptional eye appeal throughout. The fields are softly reflective and the devices satiny and lustrous. There are a few tiny scattered spots but all are trivial at worst and barely noticeable without magnification. Easily the nicest example of this rare medal we have seen in this composition in many years, if ever.Ex William Spohn Baker Collection, to the Historical Society of Pennsylvania by bequest, November 15, 1897.
