Circa 1858 Virtue, Liberty & Independence medal by Frederick C. Key Musante GW-227, Baker-274A. Copper. MS-65 BN (PCGS).27.7 mm. A stunning example of this scarce piece. The obverse is lovely light blue and olive over medium chocolate brown copper, while the reverse exhibits strong remaining orange red, accented by vivid blue and violet toning. Deeply prooflike with frosty satin-finish reliefs. The obverse is finely cracked from the jawline to the rim and has a small rim cud at 2:00.
