Circa 1857 Tomb of Washington medal by Smith and Hartmann. Musante GW-207, Baker-117B. White Metal. SP-63 (PCGS).64.0 mm. Mostly brilliant with just a trace of soft pearl gray toning over the fields, mostly on the obverse. Satiny, sharp and lustrous on the motifs while the fields remain strongly reflective. This softer composition shows a bit more handling than seen on its silver and bronze mates offered above, yet the condition and eye appeal are still unusually nice for a medal of this size, from this period, in this composition. An impressive medal and very rare.Ex William Spohn Baker Collection, to the Historical Society of Pennsylvania by bequest, November 15, 1897.
