1889 Thirteen Links Inaugural Centennial medal. Musante GW-187, Douglas-52A. White Metal. SP-64 (PCGS).53.5 mm. Intensely reflective and brilliant fields contrast beautifully with the sharply frosted motifs. There are a few light hairlines, but this example is far superior to the usual one seen; the eye appeal is rather stunning. It was almost certainly acquired by Baker directly from the Chapman brothers, who published the medal in 1889, in celebration of the centennial anniversary of Washington’s inauguration. The obverse bust was famously from an engraved punch accomplished by Charles Cushing Wright, in 1853.Ex William Spohn Baker Collection, to the Historical Society of Pennsylvania by bequest, November 15, 1897.
