Very Fine.A very rare, unissued remainder for the New York Office $---- (variable) denomination type. Though the act specified 5% interest, there is a blank line in the obligation for that rate to vary at the time of issuance as necessary. A numbered blank and printed on both sides by the American Bank Note Co. on bond paper as used for issued notes. 21.5cm by 10.0cm. A simple layout with ornate black frame all around containing text. Green guilloche across bottom center and title across top with vignette bisecting it. Minerva places an offering at the altar. Pro Patria wearing fierce regalia of war. Small eagles at left and right. These were payable in Gold Coin as engraved in the text and stamped in red at the far right. An ORIGINAL and overprinted as such at the left. A duplicate of this was also made for record keeping. Back with intricate green die on green pattern lathe work. No. 9361. The face appearance is superior to Very Fine. Ample paper body with light folds, but with some subtle paper tone along the edges. Upper right corner tack hole in the black printing. Two small black mounting remnants on back, similar to the $5000 New York cataloged here. The Hessler plate is an original and cancelled out. There was a duplicate form on Philadelphia in the January 2017 FUN auction which realized $8,812.50. A very rare, choice, and distinctive type.From the John E.
