This is an archive remainder used by engravers to make changes necessary for the second series registered bonds (Hessler X131E) plates. Printed on bond paper by the American Bank Note Co. on both sides with its full left end stub. 36.5cm by 15.5cm. Style similar to the previously offered issued $1000. Top center vignette under the arced title is female allegory of "American Invention." Seated female raises her arm over two children reading a book and U.S. Capitol in background. On a plinth is the telegraph with bas-relief of Franklin flying a kite; to the right other inventions and scientific items. Gray LOAN of 1862 across bottom. Brown transfer form on back. Serial number 750 on bond and stub; penned "1" in stub to start new series. Hashed out dates in bond text as alterations for next series. Three hole cancels. Included is the handwritten engravers instructions for new plates for this and other denominations (once pinned to bond as originally sold in ABNCo. sales) on blue paper. Archive folds, fresh and vibrant. Unique as archive model and in this form. Crayon archive mark on back of bond and blue paper. A beautiful bond that originated with the American Bank Note Company and was last sold nearly 30 years ago.From the John E.
