1804 Draped Bust Half Cent. C-4. Rarity-5. Crosslet 4, Stems to Wreath. Good-4 (PCGS).,Rich steel-brown patina and intermingled sandy-gold highlights make this a pleasing 1804 half cent. Closer inspection reveals a somewhat glossy texture with microscopic pitting to both sides and numerous faint scratches over Libertys portrait. Uniformly bold definition remains to all devices and allows ready appreciation of the design. According to Ronald P. Manley (<em>The Half Cent Die State Book: 1793-1857</em>, 1998), Cohen-4 is the first variety struck for the 1804 half cent. Survivors are scarce in all grades with the finest known a Choice Mint State coin that appeared in our (Stacks) December 1997 sale, lot 2001.
