1802/0 Draped Bust Half Cent. C-2. Rarity-3. Second Reverse (a.k.a. Reverse of 1802). Fine Details--Scratch (PCGS).,This pleasing Fine example will nicely represent this well known key date Draped Bust half cent. Handsome antique copper patina blankets both sides. The texture is a bit rough, with light pitting over and before Libertys portrait. A nearly horizontal scratch bisects the portrait nearly at the center, explaining the PCGS qualifier. The strike is well centered and overall enough bold detail remains to allow full appreciation of the design. Cohen-2 is the more readily available of the two die marriages of the 1802 half cent, the total mintage for the issue 20,266 pieces delivered in three batches. Survivors are scarce in an absolute sense, of course, with date collector pressure in particular resulting in strong demand for extant C-2 examples at all levels of preservation.
