1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 6.2-M, W-2825. Rarity-6. Mailed Bust Left, Second Laughing Head. VF-35 (PCGS).;127.2 grains. A lovely mid-grade example of this rare and conditionally challenging variety. Bold copper brown patina blankets both sides, the surfaces also revealing splashes of steel-brown that are boldest around the peripheries. All devices are clear despite minor off centering to the strike that has the upper obverse and lower reverse tight to the borders. Plenty of sharper detail remains, in fact, a glossy texture and overall smooth appearance further defining this as a premium quality coin for the assigned grade. Miller 6.2-M is by far the rarer of the two Laughing Head varieties in the Connecticut Copper series, the present example finer than the typically offered survivor. Also known as the Simple Head variety from Sylvester Crosbys comment, "a very simple expression.";From the Dr. Gordon Shaw Collection.
