1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 43.1-Y, W-4250. Rarity-2. Draped Bust Left, CONNFC--Clipped Planchet--MS-61 BN (PCGS).;129.6 grains. A remarkable example of this otherwise plentiful die marriage among Connecticut coppers. The surfaces are hard and tight with a generally smooth satin texture. The strike is well centered with only the lower obverse and upper reverse denticles off the flan. All devices are boldly rendered with much of the fine detail crisp, although we do note characteristic bluntness to the high points of the effigys bust on the obverse and the reverse seated figure. Faint planchet drift marks are more prevalent on the reverse, both sides with a few trivial carbon spots here and there around the peripheries. The planchet clip is shallow and located at 6:30 relative to the obverse. Despite its status as one of the most frequently encountered Connecticut copper varieties, Miller 43.1-Y is seldom offered with the strong technical quality and superior eye appeal embodied in the present example. Seemingly earmarked for inclusion in a leading collection of this popular early American series.;From the Antony Bettencourt Collection. Earlier ex Eric P.
