1787 Massachusetts Half Cent. Ryder 4-C, W-5940. Rarity-2. AU-50 (PCGS).;78.8 grains. This inviting piece is sharply defined from a well executed, nicely centered strike. The reverse exhibits swirls of russet to dominant orange-brown patina, the reverse bolder in appearance with competing orange-brown and medium copper toning. Satiny in texture and overall smooth, micropitting and a trace of minor surface scale here and there on the obverse hardly inhibits the appeal of this nicely preserved AU.;From the Dr. Gordon Shaw Collection. Purchased from Dave Bland, April 1983. Collector envelope with provenance notation included.
