1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 6.1-M, W-2820. Rarity-1. Mailed Bust Left, Laughing Head. EF-45 (PCGS).;113.1 grains. Handsome steel-brown patina with swirls of lighter sandy-tan patina scattered about, largely on the reverse. The strike is equally well centered on both sides with ample sharpness of detail remaining throughout the design. Surfaces are generally hard and tight with a satiny texture, accuracy alone compelling us to mention a circular area of porosity on the obverse centered on the effigys chin and two small swirls of verdigris inside 1 oclock on the reverse border. All in all, pleasing Choice EF quality for this ever-popular variety in the Connecticut copper series.;From the Dr. Gordon Shaw Collection. Purchased from David Bland, June 1984. Collector envelope with provenance notation included.
