Deeply toned in charcoal-steel, both sides exhibit a hard satin texture and sharply impressed features. The obverse is trivially drawn toward 4 oclock, affecting only the denticulation from 1 to 6 oclock, the reverse better centered. A loupe reveals microscopic roughness and traces of surface granularity, more significant are tiny digs at 7 oclock on the obverse border and in the reverse field above the digits 17 in the date. Typical die state of the variety with the obverse heavily rusted and the reverse broken within the leaves above the date.;From the Dr. Gordon Shaw Collection.
