1788 Connecticut Copper. Miller 5-B.2, W-4440. Rarity-5-. Mailed Bust Right--Overstruck on a Nova Constellatio Copper--EF-45 (PCGS).;111.4 grains. Remnants of the undertype are particularly bold in the centers on both the obverse and reverse of this predominantly reddish-copper example. Swirls of darker charcoal-russet color are associated with light surface scale, although the in hand appearance is generally smooth with considerable gloss evident. The strike is suitably bold, the reverse ideally centered and the obverse drawn trivially to 12 oclock, yet with complete denticulation around the border. An uncommonly sharp and appealing example of this distinctive variety.;From the Dr. Gordon Shaw Collection. Ex our (Bowers and Ruddys) Dr. W.
