1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 37.5-e, W-4125. Rarity-5. Draped Bust Left. EF-45 (PCGS).;112.7 grains. Glossy copper brown with a tinge of red evident at isolated viewing angles. This is an ideally centered, boldly defined piece with surfaces that are smooth apart from trivial planchet roughness in the centers. Accuracy alone compels us to mention a shallow reverse edge bruise at 12 oclock; an even more shallow planchet clip at 11 oclock relative to the obverse is as made. Very close to Condition Census for this scarce variety, the finest examples of which include a Mint State coin from Ted Craiges primary collection, the Hessberg AU, and the Ford specimen in EF.;From the Dr. Gordon Shaw Collection. From Kagins Long Beach Sale of February 1987, lot 4212. Lot tag and collector envelope with attribution and provenance notes included.
