1783 John Chalmers Shilling. W-1785. Birds, Short Worm. Good-6 (PCGS).;A wholesome coin for the assigned grade that represents a fleeting bidding opportunity for the budget minded type collector. Pleasingly toned in a blend of dove and golden-gray, both sides are free of all but wispy handling marks, none of which are worthy of undue concern. Reverse impression drawn toward 7 oclock with the upper right border flush with the adjacent lettering, obverse better centered. Wear is a bit uneven with the centers particularly soft, especially on the reverse, although much of the bird and worm scene on the reverse is appreciable. A shallow planchet clip at 1 oclock relative to the obverse does not affect any of the design elements. We are pleased to be offering multiple examples of this scarce and desirable early American type in this sale, the present coin in Good-6 a noteworthy find for the astute numismatist aware of the significantly higher cost associated with pieces grading VF or finer.;
