The Kiri stamps and makers marks are all slightly uneven with each exhibiting varying degrees of weakness. Though the ink signature appears to be fairly well preserved, it is the belief of this cataloger that it was officially re-inked during the Tempo era because it exhibits identical brush strokes with minor nuances found on those later issues. The surfaces display a pale gold tone complemented by mottled sunset hued patina, which makes for a rather charming overall appearance.The four obverse Kiri stamps exhibit several die cracks in the upper right quadrant, which is an interesting characteristic not normally encountered on these issues. For the most part, degradation of punches in Japanese numismatics is somewhat difficult to locate. The mint masters must have been quite strict and appears that the mint employees were mindful of their equipment. From the Pinnacle Collection.
