This nicely preserved and flashy representative of the last Oban made in Japan exhibits a distinctly different manufacturing style than that of all of the previous eras. The machine made crenellations are deeply impressed and evenly spaced with a uniform appearance. The four obverse Kiri crest stamps that depict a Paulownia flower are quite bold from a strong application, and the fine details are crisp and well defined. The reverse exhibits two different Kiri crest stamps, a large control stamp and the three control marks in a triangular formation in the lower left quadrant. The ink signature, Goto Tenjo the hereditary controllers of the Kinza (gold mint), is virtually complete, with what appears to be added ink, tastefully applied at a later date, over small portions. Examples of this type appear on the market with some frequency, but are normally found in less desirable conditions with major ink loss or other impairments. Though one of the more common Oban types, its state of preservation elevates its desirability and should be considered RARE and highly sought after. From the Pinnacle Collection.
