This lovely high grade survivor offers much originality with crisp, deeply applied Kiri crest and other official stamps and exhibits the corresponding rough surface texture that is not normally seen on these usually well circulated and abused issues. The chisel marks on the obverse are evenly spaced and distinct, though the control marks on the reverse are somewhat muddled, having been struck from rusty punches. As one might expect from the grade, the surfaces display light signs of handling with a few minor abrasions. The reverse does exhibit one small unobtrusive punch mark of three round prongs in a triangular formation just above and to the left of the central reverse stamp. Considering that this issue is usually encountered well circulated and with many chopmarks, its clear that the present piece was plucked from circulation early on and was carefully stored. To the collector of high grade and attractive Japanese gold, the piece offered here should be of elevated consideration, as wholesome examples of this type seldom appear on the market.
