The hammer marks are relatively evenly spaced with typical uneven obverse surfaces and slightly unevenly applied Kiri stamps on both sides. Though most of the ink signature remains intact, small portions have rubbed off primarily in the lower half of the obverse. The makers marks on the reverse are bold and clear in their typical triangular formation and allow for easy identification. This handsome survivor displays an attractive pale gold color throughout, with richer patination towward the obverse edges that adds to its eye appeal.It is interesting to note that this particular signature variety runs over the edge at the base of the obverse. After comparing examples of Obans in the Bank of Japan Collection and other institutions, it appears that this is the only Oban type in which this variation is seen. From the Pinnacle Collection.
