1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 34-J, W-5115. Rarity-3. Deer Head. VG-8 (PCGS). Glints of olive-gray on the obverse enhance otherwise dominant autumn-brown patina for this handsome piece. A couple of small marks are evident on both sides, light pitting here and there on the reverse, although the in hand appearance is quite smooth for the assigned grade. The lower and right reverse are soft, but the obverse is well defined overall with the design on that side fully appreciable. All in all, a pleasing and desirable VG to represent this popular named variety in the New Jersey copper series.
