1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 62-q, W-5350. Rarity-3. Large Planchet, Sprig Above Plow, Hidden Initials. VF-30 (PCGS). A satiny and generally hard example with a few swirls of crimson-rose to otherwise dominant olive-brown patina. Accuracy compels us to mention several minor marks in and around the central obverse, light surface scale along the upper reverse border, although the in hand appearance is pleasingly smooth. Well centered in strike, both sides retain plenty of bold detail, the obverse design elements fairly sharp. Pleasing mid grade quality overall for this popular Large Planchet variety, with the top serifs of the now-hidden WM somewhat visible among the sprigs.
