1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 64-t, W-5380. Rarity-1. Trident Shield, Large Planchet. Very Fine, Granular. 151.2 grains. This well centered, overall boldly defined example exhibits dark olive-copper patina in the fields, lighter rose-brown to the design elements. Rough in texture to explain our qualifier, several planchet voids in the center of the reverse are noted. Tiny pit in the left obverse field, several small digs in the right obverse field, tiny edge nick at 4 oclock on the reverse. With plenty of bold detail, this is a more than acceptable example of both the type and die pairing near the middle reaches of the numismatic grading scale.
