1774 Machins Mills Halfpenny. Vlack 7-74A, W-7770. Rarity-6-. GEORGIUS III, Group I. VG-10 (PCGS). 112.6 grains. A warmly and evenly toned autumn-brown example with all obverse devices boldly outlined. The reverse is sharp around the periphery with a full date, although the seated figure is soft in the center. Planchet pits and/or digs are evident in the centers, more so on the obverse than the reverse, and especially at the effigys nose and mouth. Vlack 7-74A is a rare variety that features the only obverse with a U in place of the customary V in GEORGIVS. The present example is uncommonly smooth overall despite the aforementioned blemishes, and it is sure to catch the eye of astute Machins Mills enthusiasts.
