1787 Machins Mills Halfpenny. Vlack 17-87B, W-7910. Rarity-2. GEORGIVS III, Group II. EF-40 BN (NGC). This is an uncommonly well struck and sharp example of an otherwise readily obtainable variety in the Machins Mills series. Central detail ranges from bold to sharp, the reverse periphery is sharp throughout, and the obverse border displays only minimal softness at the top of the words GEORGIVS and REX. Well centered on the former side, the latter is drawn trivially to 9 oclock. Warm ruddy-brown patina throughout, the surfaces are free of mentionable marks, yet rough overall and microporous, as often seen in survivors from the Vlack 17-87B dies. All in all, an above average example that is sure to catch the eye of specialists.
