1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 64-t, W-5380. Rarity-1. Large Planchet, Trident Shield. EF-40 (PCGS). This is an overall sharply defined example with full, uniform border denticulation from a well centered strike. Streaks of olive-gray interrupt otherwise dominant golden-brown patina on the obverse, reverse with deeper antique copper toning. The surfaces are free of significant marks, but both sides exhibit a curiously glossy texture with iridescent undertones that point to an old cleaning. With plenty of sharp detail, nonetheless, this is an attractive New Jersey copper for high grade circulated type purposes.
