1786 New Jersey Copper. Maris 16-L, W-4840. Rarity-2. No Protruding Tongue. VF-25 (PCGS). Warmly patinated in a blend of autumn and medium brown, both sides also exhibit a few blushes and wisps of olive-gray. Devoid of denticulation at the right obverse border and along the upper right reverse, although the strike is generally well centered and all design elements are bold. Surfaces are smooth, satiny and free of troublesome blemishes. The Maris 16-L is one of the most plentiful varieties in the New Jersey copper series, although this early die state example (Siboni DS1) without obverse breaks is scarce.
