Circa 1860 Dedicated to Coin and Medal Collectors medal by Frederick C. Key and George H. Lovett. Musante GW-238, Baker-634A. White Metal. MS-64 (PCGS).27.9 mm. Highly reflective fields nicely contrast against the sharp frosty devices. A few light hairlines are noted, but there are no serious marks worthy of mention. The few rim irregularities are likely as made, as it was not unusual for makers to clean up high rims or cuds. Though we have no mintage figures for this issue, it is likely fewer than 20. One example appeared at auction in the Bangs, Merwin & Co. sale of September 1860. Though several mintage figures for medals of this series were given therein, none was mentioned for this variety. It was offered only in white metal, whereas others were offered in several compositions. It is likely quite rare, and 20 specimens might be an aggressively high estimate.Ex William Spohn Baker Collection, to the Historical Society of Pennsylvania by bequest, November 15, 1897.
