1848 National Monument medal. Musante GW-178, Baker-320. White Metal. MS-63 (PCGS).39.6 mm. Pierced for suspension. A remarkable second opportunity to acquire this rare and historic medal. Essentially brilliant surfaces with just a trace of pale gray toning on the reverse, a couple of minor spots and a couple of tiny nodules of pesting fairly well hidden in the reverse design. Highly reflective in the fields which contrast nicely with the motifs, especially the lustrous and frosted Washington portrait. Not quite the equal of the above example, but quite excellent overall.Ex William Spohn Baker Collection, to the Historical Society of Pennsylvania by bequest, November 15, 1897.
