拍品描述： [United States]. Pittsburgh Clearing House Association. Certificate of Deposit for $5000 in United States Gold Coin. Specimen. Very Fine.An exceedingly rare, if not unique, Specimen printed on banknote bond paper. These large denomination clearing house forms were essential during the prior year (1907) banking crisis. These certificates and the clearing house system itself were precursors to the Federal Reserve Banking system founded by the United States in 1913. Engraved and printed by the American Bank Note Co. on both sides. 26.0cm by 14.0cm. Deep orange frame and lighter orange tinting in the center. Lower right ornate factory manufacturing scene. Titles at the top and across center. Obligation bottom left . Stamped "SPECIMEN" on face once in red at the right. Serial "00000" in blue at upper left and die numeral "25394" at upper left edge. Date stamped "Aug 14, 1908" in space. The back is perpendicular to the face. At the base (left), ornate factory scene and rail yard vignette not observed by us except on this piece. Space in the center for endorsement stamps. Stamped "RETURN TO ISSUE/HOLD FOR REFERENCE" stamping at upper right face. The only example we have seen. There are archival edge folds with the left end fold being partly split (but not touching the border line) There is some perimeter printing ink smudging on the face edges with a brown ink blot in the lower right border.
