United States of America. Act of March 4, 1893. Certificate of Ownership in 4% Indebtedness of the Cherokee Nation (Outlet). $1000 Registered Bond, Due March 4, 1897. Specimen. Very Fine.At the same time that mercantilist globalism was going on in the Pacific and elsewhere for American interests, the sovereignty of the Indian Nations had been for decades, the source of much controversy. These Specimen certificates tie United States indebtedness to the Cherokee Nation for the lands in the "Cherokee Outlet" which is noted on the back panel of the certificate. Engraved and printed by the American Bank Note Co. 42.0cm by 19.5cm including left end stub (folded back). Green frame. Protector with outlined 1000. Left, Union Trust Company of New York building (the clearing house for the bonds). Top center, Mohawk Indian as used on obsolete notes (as originally engraved for Toppan, Carpenter, Casiliear & Co. and used on such issues as Murphy, North Carolina and others). Upper left, "Stamped return to issue room." Extremely rare and unusual. There are few denominations in the series and only a few known. Very vivid and minimal handled. The stub folded back long ago. The first example from this series offered in years. An important example of Native American and financial history. From the John E.
