United States of America. Acts of September 24, 1917, amended April 4, 1918. $50. 4-1/4% Coupon Gold Bond of 1928-Third Liberty Loan. May 9, 1918. Very Fine. This is the long coupon type from the series and continues the use of the large format plate with coupons under and to the left side of the bond principal. The short coupon bonds could be exchanged for these. Printed at the BEP. 20.5cm by 17.5cm (excluding coupons at side). Large red sunburst undertint emanates from eternal flame vignette at bottom; across center deeper red THIRD LIBERTY/LOAN title. Red coupons. Jefferson top center, flanked by red $50 dies. Blue spoked Treasury seal. Brown back with closed wing eagle, styled from earlier Charles Burt studies, in oval. Embossed seal. Most coupons clipped with ten remaining at the side. Very colorful, vibrant. The coupon array is unusual, but this was coupon side (Cs) only and commenced with coupon 5 at far right row (104 on the short coupon loans). Colorful, rare, and attractive. From the John E. Herzog Collection.
