United States of America. Act of September 24, 1917, as amended April 21, 1919. $1000 4-3/4% Coupon Convertible Gold Note of 1922-1923-Victory Liberty Loan. May 20, 1919. Fine. This is a third denomination from the series and an extremely important one. Very few $1000 Federal bearer bonds of any type exist. This is an amazing survivor and an impressive piece. Short coupon type, under and side coupons. Printed at the BEP. 24.0cm by 19.0cm. Same layout and style. Blue undertint with sunburst emanating from darker blue Treasury seal and projecting out rays; VICTORY LIBERTY LOAN across center in blue. Lincoln top center flanked by $1000 dies. Green panel back with eagle in oval. Three coupons from the eight were clipped off the bottom. Coupon 4 is reattached. There is some wear, colors still sharp. Overall, pleasing. Included are Treasury documents concerning redemption, particularly concerning proof of title for them being "overdue." This is the only $1000 Liberty Loan John was able to obtain in decades of searching. A very impressive bond that might be unique in private hands. A prize. From the John E. Herzog Collection.
