Fine to Very Fine.The American Bond Detector Company (Laban Heath) created these books to accompany the Federal bonds issued from the Civil War and help thwart counterfeiting of them. Owning one of these bond detectors is essential for any collection of United States loans or currency. The volume itself is an oblong folio "Heaths Counterfeit Detector," but for large bonds. This example is fully original with slight loosening at the front inside end papers. Oblong folio 32.5cm, by 24.0cm<strong>. </strong>Gilt stamped front cover, original pebbled cloth, inset bordering in blind. Paged: (6) Title page; table of contents, list of illustrations {plates}<strong>. </strong>Pp. 1-36; plates 1-22; pp. 37-66 (coins and coinage); Plate 1-9 coins with chromolithographed embossed metallic illustrations (toning on silver impressions); pp. 67-100, with System of National Banks, Mint Data, indexes etc. All plates with tissue guards. Fine copy; loosening at inside front cover leaf, the back cover well attached. Solid spine, but small external chip on one side, typical corner rubs.
