Lingering into the 1920s long past its introduction at the end of the 1890s. The Series of 1899 is certainly distinctive owing to the iconic nature of each design and grace each denomination that composes that series. Termed the "Chief" owing to the depiction of Running Antelope at center, the Speelman - White signature combination was the last one to grace this iconic design. This signature combination accounts for the largest number of outstanding survivors of those that represent this design. Yet like its counterparts, survivors are largely clustered towards the bottom of the grading spectrum and relatively few quality examples are left to meet the demand of quality-focused collectors. This note firmly stands among the few that survive at this uncommon grade level and should portend a strong realization for the collector concerned with grade first and foremost.
