1854-S Liberty Head Eagle. AU-53 (PCGS). Blooms of satiny mint luster surround the devices on this attractive inaugural issue. Largely yellow-gold in hue with darker honey accents and smooth surfaces for the assigned grade. The 1854-S is the premier ten-dollar gold eagle issue from the San Francisco Mint. While a relatively high percentage of the 123,826-piece mintage has survived, examples that grade AU or Mint State are scarce relative to demand for them among todays quality conscious gold enthusiasts.
