1842-O Liberty Head Eagle. EF-45 (ANACS). OH. Varying yellow-gold patina greets the viewer on both sides of this boldly defined example. Ample satin luster remains in the protected areas, the surfaces notably flashy for a lightly circulated Southern gold coin. A scarce issue with a limited mintage of 27,400 pieces, Douglas Winter (<em>Gold Coins of the New Orleans Mint: 1839-1909, 2006</em>) ranks the 1842-O as tied for fourth rarest among the 21 early date New Orleans Mint eagles.
