1876 U.S. Centennial Exposition. Exposition Building Dollar—Art Gallery. Silver. 43 mm. HK-83a. Rarity-8. MS-63 (PCGS). Mostly brilliant with some rich golden brown toning around the obverse rim that fades gently into the field with a slightly mottled pattern. A few scattered light hairlines are noted in the prooflike fields, accounting for the grade. However, the eye appeal is really very nice. The devices are sharp and pleasantly frosted. Somewhat scarce in any composition, but decidedly rare in silver. None appear in our online archives covering a decade of auction records. This one is from the famed Garrett Collection, sold by us in 1981 and to the best of our knowledge it has not been offered since. From our sale of the Garrett Collection, March 1981, lot 2106.
