1881 Cincinnati Industrial Exhibition Award medal. Gold. 44.5 mm. 52.3 grams. Harkness Oh-25. SP-60 (PCGS). Bright yellow gold. The obverse is satiny and sharp on the devices but hairlined in large areas of the fields, giving them a similarly satin appearance on first inspection. Close to CINCINNATI INDUSTRIAL, at the top, the fields are more prooflike. The reverse retains much of its original prooflike texture but has been handled a bit as there is no high relief motif to shield the broad fields. Engraved on this side to AMERICAN WATCH COMPANY for BEST MECHANICAL MOVEMENT / 1881, and a great piece for any collector who appreciates horology as well as numismatics. Rare in gold.
