1847 American Institute Medal, New York. Silver. 51 mm. By Robert Lovett. Julian AM-3, Harkness Ny-50. Awarded to Joseph E. Hover. Specimen-63 (PCGS). Beautifully mottled toning over both sides featuring soft green, blue, gold and rose iridescence over medium gray silver. Decent reflectivity remains in the fields and the details are very sharp. Lightly hairlined under the toning as one would expect, but not polished as such award medals often are. Thoughtfully engraved on the reverse to Joseph E. Hover for “the best black Writing Ink” in 1847. A choice example of this popular award medal that would be hard to beat in terms of overall aesthetic appeal.
