1876 United States Centennial Award Medal. Gold Plated Bronze. 76.3 mm. By Henry Mitchell. Julian AM-10. Mint State. An unusual example of this medal that has been gold plated - probably by the recipient - as no plated examples were officially produced by the mint. The gold finish is somewhat streaky and some small areas were not completely covered. Still visually arresting, and quite appealing. Housed in the original plush bookcase style presentation case by J. F. Newman. The exterior of the case has some light surface scuffs, but it is completely functional and with a working clasp.
