1776 Continental Currency-Confederation Dollar. Brass. 39 mm. HK-858, DeLorey-88. Rarity-7. Prooflike Mint State. Bright antique brassy olive-gold surfaces with mottled milky highlights to the obverse. The fields are semi-reflective and support boldly to sharply rendered design elements. This type combines the restrike Continental "dollar" obverse of Dr. Montroville Dickeson with the CONFEDERATION reverse. Thomas K. DeLorey ("Thomas L. Elder: A Catalogue of His Tokens and Medals," The Numismatist, June 1980) states that the first auction appearance of this type was on June 29, 1917. The muling is attributed to Elder. Collector envelope included.
