This scarce type, the size of a regular issue United States Mint gold dollar, has an original mintage of only 50 to 100 pieces. Satiny, almost matte-like surfaces are free of detracting blemishes. Solid Choice quality, and nearly in the Gem category.The combination Hudson-Fulton Celebration of 1909, held in New York City, commemorated both the 300th anniversary of the discovery of the Hudson River and the 100th anniversary of the first successful steamboat navigation. The Hendrik Hudson daalders are Thomas Elder issues and were made in both large (silver dollar) and small (gold dollar) sizes in various metallic compositions. All display a portrait of Hudson on the obverse and a sailing ship on the reverse. All size/metallic combinations are scarce, the mintages in no case exceeding 100 pieces.
