United States of America. Act of January 28, 1847-Payable After 1867. $2000 6% Registered Bond. Hessler X116G. Specimen. Uncirculated. This example is illustriously pedigreed and lovely. A second denomination from this series of beautifully rendered Specimen bonds that is perhaps unique. A small nuance for this denomination is noted: there is engraved "186_" which indicates these were authorized for late in the act. Printed on both sides by Rawdon, Wright, Hatch, & Edson, New-York on bond paper. Large format. 26.0cm by 16.5cm within original rim mounting from the Vattemare albums. Plate B. The layout is slightly different compared with the $300 in the Herzog Collection. Federal eagle at top center with state seals forming a banner across the top enclosing with their tips "2000" dies. Ornate ends with female portraits and "PAYABLE/AFTER/1867" dies. Partially engraved "185_" as date block. Red 2000 protector across. Brown back and transfer form. The Hessler Plate Bond. Like most Vattemare bonds from this issue, of great rarity. Beautiful grade with minimal handling. The pedigree chain is exemplary: from the original Vattemare Albums, initially bought in 1982 by Ambassador Bill Middendorf, then to John Herzog at his sale in 1994 and soon to join another distinguished collection. From the John E.
