1828 Matron Head Cent. N-3. Rarity-2. Large Narrow Date. MS-64 BN (PCGS). CAC. Bold cartwheel luster enlivens each side of this premium quality 1828 cent. The obverse is a medium olive-brown with sea-green accents, while the reverse is a lighter chocolate-brown with steel-blue highlights and traces of faded mint red. No singularly mentionable marks or spots. Considerable quality and eye appeal at this grade level, a coin that could hold its own against many specimens in higher graded holders. Beautiful as a date coin and also noteworthy as an example of the die variety, one of a small handful of similarly graded Mint State specimens that top the census. From Kagins sale of October 1983, lot 1112; our March 2021 Auction, lot 1584.
