1847 Braided Hair Cent. N-37. Rarity-1. MS-64 RB (PCGS). Light olive-brown patina mingles with faded mint orange color on both sides of this boldly struck example. Of this variety, Bob Grellman (<em>The Die Varieties of United States Large Cents: 1840-1857</em>, 2021 edition) reports: "Seven seen in Mint State; two of those showing a significant amount of mint red, four others have traces of mint red still visible." This is one of the latter coins, a scarce and pleasing Uncirculated example of an otherwise readily obtainable die pairing.
