Richmond, Ohio. Erie Salt Company. 1860s. $1.75. PMG About Uncirculated 55. Proof.(Wolka 2324-04) Plate A. Proof. Four POCs along the signature lines. Imprint of Rawdon, Wright & Hatch New York below the Presidents signature line. Printed on India paper only. Standing allegorical female with anchor at left. Barrels and ship at lower right. The Bank of Richmond title is seen at top center, flanked by ornate dies of "1 3/4" on either side. The right end panel states "REAL ESTATE PLEDGED, CHARTER PERPETUAL" at the top, while there is a "1 75/100" perpendicular below. An exceptionally rare and desirable piece. PMG notes "Date, Serial Number and Signatures added," which is correct. They also posit that this is a Remainder, which it is not. The Remainders are a little more available and they still bring solid three-figure prices. This is absolutely a Proof note and it is quite rare and very desirable. The second of two of this rare proof that should not be passed on by any serious collector.
