Imprint of Underwood, Bald, Spencer & Hufty, Philada below the Presidents signature line. Large central vignette of the presentation of the Declaration of Independence based on a painting by John Trumbull. This vignette is flanked by a pair of cameo heads. Portrait of bank namesake Dewitt Clinton at left. Allegorical female, Proserpina, at right. The Clinton Bank was organized in 1839 but after a few short years was suspended in 1844. The only other example we know of came from the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale. We doubt that other proof could be more of an eye-catcher than this delightful gem. One of only two known and a great piece.
